  1. DIGITAL GAMES: PLAY GAMES TO: SAVE THE WORLD? LEARN? SOCIAL SKILLS, HOW TO USE TECHNOLOGY, ACADEMIC SUBJECTS OR JUST HAVE FUN?

  2. Can digital computer games really be used to tackle the worlds greatest problems like famine, global warming, the recession? Virtual games involving virtual worlds have been and are being created which involve vast numbers of ‘’players’’ who co-operate to find solutions within the virtual world which could then be applied to real world problems.

  3. ON LINE GAMES FOR EDUCATION: There are loads of games on line offering to teach you something or educate you, but how good are these really?

  4. A slightly more academic approach. There are a range of game based computer programmes aimed at all levels of students, designed to reinforce both the national curriculum and school work.

  5. IXL Is used by students both at school and at home via a unique login. As the student works through different topic area’s their teacher can see and check their progress

  6. The information offered to the teach can allow them to manipulate goals to encourage the students as well as recognising the students achievements.

  7. MYMATHS is a programme we have been using on our SKE BA programme. The format is very similar to IXL allowing students to work through a range of topics covering the subject area.

  8. All the topic area’s are clearly labelled and when selected the student can choose at which key stage level they wish to study.

  9. The learning area’s are a combination of both games and traditional lesson plans. The use of technology enhancing the presentation to the students.

  10. There are a whole range of games and platforms available which are designed to appeal to different age groups. However strong their educational bias I do question the motives behind some of their development of such platforms and games.
