  1. Attracting young members “Facebook is an especially social platform, and your success will be based on if your users want to interact and share your content. It’s fine to link to your latest blog posts, but Facebook is much more than a broadcasting platform.”

  2. Building our “Following”… Appeal to Core Members Every group has a core bunch. The handful of folks who are responsible for change, for leading things, for getting everyone excited and spreading the company message. Reach out to these folks and get them involved in talking about your Fan page. Create your promotional army by hand selecting the major players, sending the messages thanking them for their support, and then telling them that you need their help. Make them feel important and like they’re on the cutting edge of whatever you’re doing. Get them to always be talking about you and tagging you places. These types of action increase your trust, build your credibility and give you social proof. These types of connectors are usually the ones with very large social networks on sites like Twitter or Facebook. Ask them to use Facebook’s Suggest feature to “suggest” that their friends fan your page. When the request comes from them, it’s harder for others to decline and it just reinforces that “inside joke”.

  3. How to attract “likes”… Offer a unique brand experience How do you take people backstage for that experience? Give them the exclusive that didn’t make it into that interview/story. Give them access to products or merchandise not yet on your site. Invite them into your testing process. Get their opinion on the events they want to see…and incorporate them. Let them name the secret event/project you’re working on. Let them create a concept board for future events Let them be come the individuals that the IET consults for YP/YA related campaigns/publications

  4. Content Generation Idea’s for Facebook • Ask questions and take polls • Get personal – have in-house editors • Create a welcome page • Update regularly, but not too often: • Respond to comments • Post videos and images • Share content from others • Test, test, test

  5. EDGERANK • EdgeRank is the algorithm Facebook uses to determine where your post shows up in the newsfeed and how long it stays there. There are three main components that you should know about: • Affinity: By measuring how connected you are with the user or brand, Facebook delivers relevant content based on your ongoing relationship including any relationship your friends have with a certain page. • Weight: Facebook considers posts with photos or videos more valuable than posts with plain text or links. This type of visual content will rank higher in the newsfeed. Facebook also takes into account the level of interaction a particular post receives so the more people engage with your post, the more you can increase overall reach. • Decay: Social media is all about finding the latest and most relevant information as it happens and Facebook is no different. You will notice that most of your post engagement happens just minutes after publishing. Content quickly loses value as time passes to avoid irrelevant posts showing up in your feed.

  6. RULE OF THIRDS • Following the “Rule of Thirds” will help you maintain a balance by making sure that ⅓ of your content is promoting yourself and your business, ⅓ of your content is engaging and builds relationships with your audience, and ⅓ of your content is amplification of outside resources and information. • Promotional content doesn’t have to be all sales talk. This can mean talking about an upcoming webinar you’re hosting or your latest blog post. It could be any content that talks about your products, services, or general business updates. • Engaging content is crucial to building a strong relationship with your audience and providing value through conversation. Show your fans that they matter to you and treat them like you truly care about any contribution they make to the conversation. • Amplify content from other relevant blogs or websites to show that you stay updated on industry trends and to avoid looking like you only post content from your own website. It’s a nice break for your audience and it will help them discover other useful resources and informational sites.
