  1. The Wave Glider

  2. Overview and Background: • 1st unmanned water drone • Created by Joe Rizzo and Bob Burcham • - Liquid Robotics has won numerous award over the past few years for innovation and environmental purposes.

  3. Technology: • - Glider cruises at the surface of the ocean because of the wave power being the greatest for motion • Created an auxiliary thruster to navigate tough ocean conditions. • - Uses no emissions or refueling, eco-friendly • - Solar panels on top of the machine provide energy to the product

  4. Advantages: • collect data on temperature, winds, humidity, wind gusts, water temperature, water color • Use the wave glider to observe sharks and their behavior patterns • Fisheries management • Tsunami and Hurricane warnings

  5. MORE ADVANTAGES: -Navy has used these drones for security purposes and surveillance -can collect data in remote locations and endure tough weather -tremendous long-term cost savings for science and research companies in the field -Prime example is Bp, for an 8,500 mile journey for observation it would save them about $9 million

  6. Disadvantages: • Drones must operate with small margin of error • One drone has already been bitten by a Shark • May be costly for an IT team to repair and re-launch into the ocean • The drones move relatively slow, around 1 knot • - Must be able to navigate through ships and boats

  7. Prices and Models: z

  8. Significance and Impact on the world: • long-term cost savings, eco-friendly, security protection, and predicting natural disasters • constantly looking for new ways to preserve and prevent further damage to the environment • minimizing the risk of danger in the ocean with the wave glider • - Essential because 75% of the world is covered by water, and discoveries are waiting to occur.
