  3.  Key words: slavophile Did Alexander III undo all of his father’s reforms?  LOs To identify at least 5 major problems facing Alexander III and evaluate how successfully he dealt with them

  4.  Your task Note-taking skills  If you were the Tsar which areas would you judge to be most successful. How would this be different if your were a peasant farmer? Read p.13-16 and record as a spider diagram the measures Alexander III used to assert his authority after his father’s death. Focus on these areas: The government The justice system The press Education Ethnic minorities Financial reform

  5. Sort the cards into 2 piles: Alexander II & III. Categorise the cards, e.g. economy, society … On balance who did more to avert a revolution?

  6. What were the similarities and differences in Russia between the start and the end of Alexander III’s reign? Alexander III (1881-1894) 6’ 3’’ tall!
