  2. What isTumblr? • Tumblr is a microblogging platform that allows users to share discovered content via reblogging and create findable content via tags

  3. What it isn’t… • It isn’t platform for “long” posts • It isn’t often used professionally except in the cases of institutions in general and visual artists • It isn’t often used as a main blogging platform for bloggers in general (except, again, in the case of visual artists)

  4. Why use Tumblr? • One of the fastest growing social networking sites, Tumblr • Currently hosts over 70 million blogs • Ranked 14 on Quantcast • Available in 12 languages • 42% of its traffic is U.S.-based • See more on Tumblr’sAbout page

  14. Find blogs to follow through tags-Use the tag search bar -Browse the curated list Tumblr maintains for certain tags Following Posts on Tumblr

  15. Followed blogs are collected on a user’s dashboard where they can interact with those blogs by liking, reblogging, or replying to them

  16. Comments do not exist on Tumblr. However, users can option to receive questions on their Tumblr accounts for their readers to see

  17. Posting on Tumblr • Tumblr uses a WYSIWYG editor, which is much like what is found on Blogger and Wordpress. • WYSIWYG= What You See Is What You Get • Very user-friendly • Little tech experience needed • Can easily post links, original text, pictures, etc. • Free themes

  18. Posting Anywhere • Go to Tumblr’s About page and explore howTumblr allows you to post in multiple ways • E-mail • Phone in an Audio Post • Download mobile apps for Android or iPhone

  19. Knowing What to Post • Always consider • Your library’s materials and services • Do you have anything notable in your collection? • What are your events? • Your patrons and their interests • Who are your patrons? • What would they find useful and/or fun?
