  4. Communication in Sports and Entertainment Marketing • Skills necessary to be successful in Sports and Entertainment Marketing: • meet new people with ease • engage people in conversation • speak confidently and persuasively before a group

  5. Career Areas that Require Good Communication • Media • TV • Radio • Internet (Social Media) • Sales • Tickets • Merchandise • Concessions • Athletes, Coaches, Support Staff

  6. Communication in Sports and Entertainment • Even if you do not intend to work in these specific areas you will need to communicate with those who do • Each career category has its own jargon, or language that relates to the specific area

Non-Verbal Communication in Sports • Hand signals between team members (catcher and pitcher in baseball) • Team member encouragement – chest bumps, score celebrations, hand gestures • Fan emotion – dress in spirit wear, paint faces, gestures to other teams fans • Referee calling plays on the field (both verbally and non verbally)
