  3. bucolic • adj. characteristic of the countryside, rural; relating to shepherds and cowherds, pastoral

  4. calumniate The media effectively calumniated her image even though she was eventually found to be innocent. • v. to slander; to accuse falsely and maliciously

  5. Chary (chair-ee) • adj. extremely cautious, hesitant, or slow; reserved, diffident

  6. collusion • n. secret agreement or cooperation

  7. dilettante • n. a dabbler in the arts; one who engages in an activity in an amateurish, trifling way • Adj. superficial

  8. imperturbable • adj. not easily excited; emotionally steady

  9. increment • n. an enlargement, increase, addition

  10. mandate • n. an authoritative command, formal order, authorization

  11. paltry • adj. trifling, insignificant; mean, despicable; inferior, trashy

  12. paroxysm • n. a sudden outburst; a spasm, convulsion

  13. pedantry • n. a pretentious display of knowledge; overly rigid attention to rules and details
