  1. How are you are connected to these supporting values? Communication Inclusiveness and Diversity Stewardship

  2. Leila Palis, English Faculty What is an example of how you connect to these supporting values? • Inclusiveness and Diversity “I connect to this supporting value by working with my colleagues and various student support services to create an English Language Program at PVCC that offers students the opportunity to develop their understanding of English through a variety of credit and noncredit classes that are offered in the day and in the evening. PVCC’s English Language Program is dedicated to helping students from around the world and within our own community achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals. ”

  3. Sam Fraulino, Instructional Multi-Media Developer What is an example of how you connect to these supporting values? • Communication & Stewardship “For me communication is an extremely important part of my job, working with faculty in support of instructional technology, clear and precise communication is key for successful student learning, when creating instructional materials for both online and face to face classrooms. I take great pride in creating original and instructionally sound visual communication solutions to all faculty and staff here at PVC.  This can be in the form of web design, course visual design, instructional applications and online applications.  My stewardship responsibility is to provide the college with the best professional services with being mindful of college resources.  I am always mindful of what technology we buy and use in order to stretch our resources so we don't waste dollars and still can provide services of high value to support PVC's learning centered values.”

  4. Anthony Lamanna, Science Faculty What is an example of how you connect to these supporting values? • Communication "Communication is a core value that I employ at all levels including student, co-worker, and community.  I have an open door policy with my students in which they can approach me with any issue, as well as making myself available to students for advice in their chosen or even undecided career path.  I maintain communication with coworkers by mentoring newer employees and continuing to seek advice from veteran faculty and staff.  Lastly, I maintain communication with the community through serving as a club advisor (Pre-Physician Assistant Club) and interacting with guest speakers from businesses, other higher degree colleges, and student alumni."

  5. Kathleen Walker, Psychology Faculty What is an example of how you connect to these supporting values? • Inclusiveness and Diversity “I encourage students to share their life experiences as they relate to the material in Psychology class.  As the students open up and share, I use that time to teach respect for all viewpoints, beliefs, and ways of life.  I stress the importance of learning from each other, rather than judging or debating.  Over the years, I have realized that many students have become more accepting of others through these discussions in class.”

  6. Scott Meek, Commander Public Safety What is an example of how you connect to these supporting values? • Stewardship & Communication “PVCC serves as effective stewards of all our facilities by insuring that the use of our facilities meet the guidelines set forth in the MCCCD "Use of Facilities" policy.  Public Safety communicates incidents that take place on campus, as well as provides information on how our community can get help and what they should do in an emergency.  The goal is to provide the information so that everyone on campus is informed about what is going on and have the tools to help Public Safety create a safe learning environment.”

  7. Felicia Ramírez, Communication Faculty What is an example of how you connect to these supporting values? • Communication “Communication is directly related to my vocation. My goal is to help students to be competent and confident communicators thereby increasing employability, enhancing personal and social relationships, and improving civic engagement. I also try to model this value in my interactions with students, colleagues, and members of the community. I believe that our communication creates a social reality so that means we have to be mindful of the messages we send and have a debate-challenge or question such realities. At PVCC that means engaging in clear open dialogue, inviting debate, and being inclusive.”

  8. Andrea Robertson, Director Theatre Department What is an example of how you connect to these supporting values? • Communication “I connect with communication because I find it to be so crucial to everything we do.  By really listening to each other and trying to understand where the other is coming from, we are able to bridge the gap between people more easily and keep life moving forward.  It is when we stop listening or when a break occurs in the communication chain that things really begin to unravel. ”

  9. Michele Marion, Director Center for International Studies What is an example of how you connect to these supporting values? • Stewardship “Annual Disclosure Forms that provide all MCCCD employees with a framework for ensuring that rules are adhered to and actions are performed appropriately.  Furthermore all adjunct faculty sign a FERPA acknowledgement each semester that they teach to protect the privacy of their students. ”

  10. Ivette Quintero, Recruitment Coordinator What is an example of how you connect to these supporting values? • Communication “The Recruitment Office prides itself on constantly communicating an accurate and appealing message regarding our programs and services to our constituents. This delivery helps to build relationships with all prospective students, parents and the community at large.  ”
