  1. School-to-Work Transition May, 2007 NEW MEXICO DIVISION OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION

  2. Agency Goals Related to Transition: • Improve School-to-Work Transition Services and outcomes • Improve collaboration between all agencies involved in transition activities • Develop IPE for all eligible students prior to exiting high school

  3. Transition Student: • A secondary school student with a disability pursuant to IDEA and/or the Rehabilitation Act, who is an applicant or eligible individual for Vocational Rehabilitation services and becomes a signed applicant for services before exiting a secondary school program.

  4. VR Counselor Assignments • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with assigned high school • Provide consultative services • Ensure timeliness in processing referrals, determining eligibility and working with student to develop IPE

  5. DVR TIMELINES: • Referral – September through October • Eligibility – By December • Comprehensive Assessment/Career Counseling/Guidance and Counseling - January through March/April • IPE Development – March through May

  6. Eligibility: • Individual with a physical or mental impairment; • which results in a substantial impediment to employment; • who can benefit in terms of an employment outcome from vocational rehabilitation services; and • VR services are required in order for the individual to prepare for, enter, engage in, retain or regain employment

  7. Services: • Guidance and Counseling/Career Counseling • On the Job Training • Support in Post-Secondary Education • Apprenticeships • Assistive Technology • Job Seeking Skills (soft skills) • Job Placement and support • Job Coaching
