  1. Schools today are ever-changing environments that aim to incorporate new ideas of culture, information, news, technology and much more. Since the creation of the World Wide Web in 1990, new forms of technology have been created and advanced. According to Wikipedia, these new advances are referred to as newliteracies or new forms of literacy made possible by digital technology developments. Types of new literacies include: Technological Literacy- using computer as a way to develop learning Visual Literacy- making meaning from images Information Literacy- the ability to use a computer and access information Presentation By: Sonja Purdue, Josephine Contreras, Rachel Stoddard, and Audriana Marmuscak

One of the major contributions of technology to society is the Internet -Global network of computers -Communications System -Interconnected documents In educational settings internationally, the Internet has been used to provide and obtain information and resources. Knowing how to navigate the Internet is an essential tool, and is only going to become more important with time It is critical one is able to use the Internet, and particularly Search Engines Uses: Research Entertainment There are many ways to make your searches more efficient. For instance, using the word ‘AND’ in your search will yield fewer, more relevant results and using the word ‘OR’ will yield a larger range of results. Quick Information Retrieval • There are many quick and easy ways to access information these days, including internet websites and email. • -Internet websites: a collection of information on accessible pages featuring links, text, pictures and more about a specific topic and available to anyone with internet access • -Email: an easy way to send and receive messages electronically through the internet between people

  4. Distance Learning Distance learning uses different teaching methods and technology to help students learn outside and away from a traditional classroom. This includes podcasts, interactive classrooms and Google documents to name a few. -Podcasts: pre-recorded audio or video program attached to a website so people can download and access -Interactive Classrooms: where teachers can interact with students through email, video conferencing or an internet broadcast -Google Documents: web-based application where documents can be created and stored and can be accessed anywhere there is internet

  6. Interactive Learning! (yayy!) -Many websites and programs exist which aid in the teaching and learning experience -They enable intriguing demonstrations and lectures as well as provide a fun, hands-on approach to learning -Sites like web assignand mastering physicsallow homework to be more fun and ultimately a more successful learning tool as well.

  7. Some Great (Free) Programs Matlab – software used great for graphing, calculating, and all around exploring mathematical and scientific concepts Foldit! – a beta video game sweeping the science nation designed to provide insight into protein folding. Vmd- software which allows 3-D visualization as well as manipulation of biomolecular systems.

  8. New Technology Summary -New technology is a great way to advance in education for the student as well as for the instructor. -With access to a computer there are various ways to learn and to stay in touch. -Professionals have the option of putting useful information in a Power Point, chatting, emailing clients, and also setting up web-pages/sites to provide information.
