  1. Metals, Nonmetals, and Metalloids TEKS 6.6(a) Compare metals, nonmetals, and metalloids using physical properties such as luster, conductivity or malleability

  2. Metals Metals are elements that have certain properties generally characterized by ductility, malleability, luster and conductivity of heat and electricity. Luster: Shiny Conductivity: Yes both, Thermal and Electrical Malleable: Yes Aluminum

  3. Nonmetal Non Metals- elements with properties opposite of metals. Luster: Diamonds is adamantine to waxy Graphite is metallic to dull. Conductivity: (most nonmetals are poor conductors) Diamonds are excellent sources of thermal conductivity and are excellent electrical insulators Graphite- good conductor of electricity Malleable: Diamonds : No Graphite : No Diamonds are one of the crystal forms of the element carbon and is one of the hardest. Graphite, one of the softest forms of carbon

  4. Metalloids Share properties of both metals and nonmetals, can be shiny or dull; somewhat malleable and ductile, semiconductor. Luster: Metallic Conductivity: Will conduct thermal heat when a rise in temperature occurs. Malleable: No Germanium is a gray-white element with a metallic luster.
