  1. Representation within pop genre

History • Pop genre is a style of music aimed at a younger target audience who love to dance and party. • It is often seen as a softer alternative to rock and roll • It has origins from the early 20th century, jazz, rock and roll, country and blues. • It is almost a mix of all into a more upbeat version. Having the power to drop energy and quickly rise again into a catchy chours.

  3. What is pop music? • Trying to define pop music is a difficult task as it has such a wide rage of versions that could be considered pop • The term officially refers to all types of genres such as rock, country, rap and more. • A good way to identify if something is pop would be if it was around the 100-130 bpm rang and has a catchy melody and lyrics. • A perfect example of this would be Bruno Mars's ‘Uptown Funk’. It is a huge success through having such a recongnizable melody and lyrics with a bpm of 115.

Early 2000’s • Rihanna’s ’umbrella’ featuring JayZ, is a classic pop song released in the early 2000’s. • It is one of her most famous songs which to date has pulled in over 1 billion streams on Spotify with the music video having 870 million.   6. costume • Pop stars always dress to impress. This is part of building a brand and artist persona. As a result, it began to become competitive between artists as to who could wear the craziest outfits to gain more media attention. Reffering to the phrase “any publicity is good publicity” • Some examples of these outfits are Britney Spears with a snake and Lady Gaga, wearing a meat dress.

  7. Hair • Pop stars such as David Bowie loved to express themselves through their appearance. He had some very interesting costume choices which were supported by his hair. • In his music video for the song ’Life on Mars’ he has a wolf cut mullet which he has dyed ginger.
