The History of POP • Pop is short for popular music. • Pop represents the type of music that is favored by the public. • Is said to have been born in Napoli, Italy, in 1679 when Alessandro Scarlatti composed his first opera. - It was said to be light, lively, and catchy and had a strong sense of rhythm and melody. • The song “Slide, Kelly, Slide” by Edison Studios (1894) is credited as the first “pop” hit recorded.

The History of POP • Pop music has continuously changed throughout the decades. • It has a strong focus on melodies and catchy hooks, and has a chorus that contrast melodically, rhythmically, and harmonically with the verse. • Lyrics are usually about love, relationships, and past experiences.
