  2. SHORT SUMMARY • The flea is about a flea who has sucked first his blood so they have mingled and that cannot be called a sin or shame. So the flea has joined them together, and so the flea has done more than they would do.

  3. John Donne • John Donne was born in 1572 in London he died on the 31st of march 1631 he was a poet,priest and lawyer his style of poems are metaphysical and catholic backgrounds.

  4. Context • The main context of this poem is marriage. Marriage is a very symbolic and religious marriage is 1 of the most important devotion that someone could make.

  5. Key theme • Most important theme is marriage • The flea provides them with a sence of union (togetherness) when the flea sucks both there blood they are together there blood has mingled

  6. imagery • Marriage, catholic • “purple thy nail in blood of innocence” • Meaning she has killed the flea now both there blood is on her name. showing that they would last just as long.

  7. Quote • Every verse has the same amount of lines. • “Our marriage bed, and marriage temple is” this quote it shows that he wants to make love to her marriage temple is a yonic symbol. • Except in that drop which it suckt from thee? This continues the quote “purple thy nail in blood of innocence”. This means that the woman he is pleading to for her hand in marriage rejected him and killed the flee which connects them and now has its blood on her hands.
