  2. Why robotics? Lego MindStorm NXT kits are the cheapest and fastest way into robotics. Fun and easy for any level of student. Easy to use – 4th grade on up (simple to complex). GUI programing (easy – hard) Spark interest in STEM without knowing. H.O.T. Always!

  3. C.T.E. – Not just for MS/HS! E-cadet & FLL - CTE program initiative 22 NXT kits 9 NXT resource kits 7 mats 2 practice meets (HS) 1 tournament of Champions – Civic Center

  4. What is E-cadet? CTE Sponsored! E-cadet purpose is to inspirer children into robotics and STEM starting at grades 4 & 5. Up to 4 students per kit and 3 teams per campus. 2 Scrimmages at DRHS. 1 Championship at Civic Center. Meet 2 hours a week minimum (your call – am /pm). Gracious Professionalism is a MUST!

  5. So what Should a team Look Like? 2-4 students Mixture of girls and boys (if Possible) Mixture of grades 4th & 5th Mixture of talents Have fun coach & Students!

  6. Coopertition Coopertition involves Learning from teammates Teaching teammates Learning from Mentors Managing and being managed Coopertition means competing always, but assisting and enabling others when you can.

  7. GP is defined! • Gracious Professionalism is part of the ethos of FIRST. It's a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community. • Fierce competition and mutual gain are not separate notions. • Students learn and compete like crazy, but treat one another with respect and kindness in the process. • They avoid treating anyone like losers. • No chest thumping tough talk, but no sticky-sweet platitudes either. • Knowledge, competition, and empathy are comfortably blended.

  10. Contest format Gracious Professionalism MOST Important 2 ½ minutes per round Average all 3 rounds – top score wins 1st, 2nd, 3rd Gracious Professionalism MOST Important Did I mention GP is KEY Ingredient!

  11. E- Cadet Rules & Game Some Assembly Required 8 COGS (not TUNA Cans!) Out of Time Mat 2 – 1 per campus

  12. Rule Book- answers all! 18+ pages of good old fashion rules. Format – Scoring – Do’s & Don’ts – Sizing – etc. Refer back to rule book. Students need to know the rules as well as the coaches! Students make case of any challenges. Always use Gracious Professionalism as your guide! When all else fails~ Ask US! (e-mail).
