Primary Care 101: Be a Prevention Coach • Support and Promote Breastfeeding • Counsel on appropriate feeding/Guide before common mistakes occur • Educate on the dangers of many common “kids’ foods” • Stress importance of Fruits and Vegetables • Encourage active play, discourage screentime • SCREENING= ASKING not ASSUMING

  4. Primary Care 201: Be Proactive • Intervention counseling for: • Screening concerns REGARDLESS of BMI • Rapid changes in weight/BMI REGARDLESS of current BMI percentile • Strong family history of hyperlipidemia/diabetes

  5. Primary Care 301: Address the Problem • Identify Overweight and Obesity, share with family & child • Educate parents/family on overweight/obesity risks

  6. Primary Care 401: Trouble shooting • Identify and address barriers • Use detailed journaling of diet and exercise • Medication effects/adjustments • Screening for co-morbid conditions • Ensuring no underlying organic disease • Medication use • Know your Resources: local/regional
