Combating the Adversity

  • Pre-season counseling campaigns

22,779 campaigns were conducted in 18115 villages and 5,47,535 farmers participated

  • Alternate cropping

Area under millets increased from 7.5 L.Ha. to 12 L.Ha.

  • Deft Input Management
  • Massive adoption of IPM and INM
  • Higher credit flow- crop loan

An increase of 70% against the national target of 30%

  • Higher and efficient utilization of funds

Nearly 90% of the 114 cr sanctioned utilised

Action Plan 2005-06

Evaluate competitive advantage of major corps of Tamil Nadu to compete in domestic and global market

Complete revamp of the Government Extension System-Focus on ‘Ability with Agility’ and public private partnership

Introduce Integrated Single window service under one roof

Reach the un-reached through CIT-

UpscaleContract Farming in all major crops.

Organise Associations/Self Help Groups – crop wise and empower them.

Gender main streaming – Tamil Nadu Women in Agribusiness

Wasteland Development through participatory, watershed approach

New infrastructure to sustain agriculture in rain-fed areas

Evolve a new communication strategy

TARGETS 2005-06

  • Single window extension system-Setting up of 200 Agriculture Extension Centers @ Rs 100 cr.
  • Launching of CIT enabled Agriculture on Pilot basis in two districts
  • Promote Bio-Fuel crops in 20,000 ha
  • Bring 1.5 Lakh ha of farmers’ wasteland under green cover
  • Drip Irrigation at enhanced subsidy of 50%
  • Promote precision farming in horticulture
  • Treatment of 1000 micro watersheds
  • Contract farming in Pulses,oilseeds,maize,and cotton over 30,000 ha
  • Organic farming in regions neighbouring urban centers
