    1. Escape for your life! Genesis 19:14-17

    2. I shouldn’t be here! • What did you do? • “It’s too late now” • “Just this once will be OK” • Flee like Joseph? Did you use your way of escape? (1 Cor. 10:13) • What put you in that position in the first place? (1 Cor. 10:12)

    3. The Example of Lot • How the influences of the world can draw us into sinful situations • Sodom, Gen. 13:13; 18:32; 19:15-16 • Lot needed to escape the influences that led him into the awful situation in which he found himself

    4. Escape Materialism (13:8-13) • Selfishness cost him dearly, Gen. 13:10-11; 2 Pet. 2:7-8 (19:30-38) • Lust for material gain always causes loss, Heb. 13:5; Mal. 3:8-10 • Christians driven by giving, not getting, Luke 6:38; 2 Cor. 9:6-8 (Acts 20:35)

    5. Light Regard of Sin (13:13) • Lot chose to put himself and his family into sinful surroundings, 1 Cor. 15:33; Eph. 5:11-12 (2 Pet. 2:7-8) • Oppressed: Exhausted, troubled (v. 7) • Vexed: “torture, torment, distress” (v. 8) • Lot was vexed, but not to the point of leaving Sodom, 2 Pet. 2:8; 1 Tim. 6:11

    6. Light Regard of Sin (13:13) • Lot was vexed, but not to the point of leaving worldly entanglements • Business conditions,Gen. 13:10 • Standing in the community,19:1 • Family ties,19:14 • Must not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers, 2 Cor. 6:14

    7. Light Regard of Sin (13:13) • Lot was vexed, yet he had a false sense of security, Gen. 19:15-16 • Warned, yet lingered (1 Cor. 10:12) • Possessions, position, power, prestige and personal desires can all lead us into a false sense of security, Matt. 16:26 (cf. Obadiah 3)

    8. Light Regard of Sin (13:13) • Eventually destroyed his influence, Gen. 19:5-9, 14, 26, 32 • Applications: Lewdness, drinking and dancing (1 Pet. 4:3), immodest dress (1 Tim. 2:9-10), lying (Eph. 4:25) • Instead: Abhor evil (Rom. 12:9); Wake up (Rom. 13:11-14); Abstain (1 Ths. 5:21-22) so that → 1 Pet. 2:11-12

Indecision & Delay (19:16-17) • Many are lost because of indecision and delay, Acts 24:24-27; 2 Cor 6:2 • Do not linger on threshold of sin • Against God’s law,1 Jno. 3:4 (5:17) • Doubtful engagement,Rom. 14:23 • Influences someone to stumble and sin, 1 Cor. 8:12-13 • Willful refusal to do good,Jas. 4:17

    10. Do not be deceived! • If allowed to do so, sin (sinners) will influence us, consume us and destroy our faith, 1 Cor. 15:33 • Escape for your life! Gen. 19:17 • God will faithful save the obedient (19:29) • God will fully punish sinners (19:24-26)
