  1. Do Now • Directions: Identify the following as a simple, compound, or complex sentence. • 1.) He watched the plane take off, even though it was raining outside. _____________________________________ • 2.) I want to go to the movies to see Sanctum. _____________________________________

  2. Do Now • What is your favorite food? In one paragraph try to convince your fellow classmates why your favorite food is the best.

  3. Vocabulary Activity • You will need 4 index cards for each person • If you do not have any, you can make them out of paper and then bring 4 index cards for Wednesday’s vocabulary review game • You will write the word you are assigned on one side of the index card in in marker and the definition of that word in pencil on the back of the index card. Make sure to have me check the definition • On the remaining 3 index cards, you will then write the rest of the words and definitions assigned to your specific table

  5. Definition of word in pencil Definition of the word in pencil in case you make a mistake and need to erase the definition. Please write neatly so your classmates can read and understand the definition.

  6. Questions??? • Where can I find the definition? In your notes, in your foldables, in the textbook in the glossary, from a classmate. • These vocabulary words should be added to your glossary in your interactive notebooks!!!

Summaries and Outlines • We have learned how to write summaries and outlines once before this year. • Can someone raise their hand to explain what a summary is?? • A summary is a shortened version of an original text. • Summarizing is telling the important events or ideas in a story in your own words. It gives only the most important events or ideas in a story. • What is an outline? • An outline is a list of main ideas and important details that show the relationship between information. • Let’s take a closer look before we practice…

  12. Summaries • Summarizing means giving a brief (short) account of the main events or most important information. • To write a summary, first identify the main ideas of the text. • Then restate the main ideas or events in your own words. • DON’T INCLUDE UNIMPORTANT DETAILS!!
