  1. SCADM report • Australian Antarctic Data Centre

  2. Metadata holdings • 2320 records • 1024 distinct metadata providers • 87% of records point to data • all metadata via GCMD

  3. Data holdings • 87% of metadata records linked to actual data • many data types • all datasets are badged with Polar Information Commons • very few issues with badging (some around citation format)

  4. Funding situation • core funding via Australian Antarctic Division (Department of Environment) • ~8 FTE • Scope: scientific and spatial data management, mapping, and data synthesis and quantitative research leadership to Australia's Antarctic programme (AAp)

  5. Scope • Make scientific observations and results from the AAp freely available • Manage and ensure long-term value from the scientific and spatial data collected by the AAp • Provide quantitative leadership to Australia's Antarctic program • Coordinate Australia's Antarctic mapping program

  6. Problems encountered • staffing • international travel

  7. Technical • Priorities to extend DIF format • we have added UUID within existing extended framework

  8. Highlights of recent developments • DOIs on data sets via ANDS (Australian National Data Service) • our metadata now via e.g. GCMD, ANDS, AODN, Thomson Reuters • data management plans completed for ALL current projects, new round starting soon

  9. Highlights of recent developments • working with the Ocean Acidification International Coordination Centre to develop an OA metadata standard, controlled vocabs, and eventually a data portal • SIPEX II (marine science voyage) dataset. Metadata and data collected on voyage, so 90% complete as the ship pulled up to the wharf

  10. Highlights of recent developments • ongoing support/engagement for e.g. SCAR map catalogue, gazetteer, Antarctic Digital Database • SCAR Gazetteer facelift: http://data.aad.gov.au/aadc/gaz/scar/

  11. General suggestions
