  1. Preparation for using group roles • Each group must turn the information on their card into a poster. There are some rules though: • You can only use ten words. • As much of the information as possible must be changed into pictures, diagrams, numbers - e.g. if leadership is mentioned in your work, rather than write the word you could use a number 1 or picture to represent that characteristic.Abbreviations count as one word. • Each person in the group must produce their own poster—use one colour for each person. • You have only 5 minutes to complete • your poster. A Grade Will be able to justify why the key features of fulfilling the job role are directly linked to the success of the team. B Grade will understand the importance of the 4 job roles. C Grade – know the key features of job roles.

How could you link this role to the success of the team? • Present back your team role to your group. • What are their key characteristics and role? • How will carrying out this role help you in other subjects and careers outside of school? • Is this role important if the team is to be a success? Assessment Co-ordinator: What is your key role? Which of the four roles is the most important? Now match the skills and characteristics to the individuals in your group – prepare to work in a team role for the rest of the lesson. Team Leader: Which key features of this role are directly linked to the success of the team? Group Co-ordinators: Explain the impact on your team if you failed to carryout your duties?

Merit – will be able to explain how the different features would defend you against attack. Distinction – will be able to reach a judgement about which the best features were and explain why.

  7. Task: The Year is 1090. You are a friend of William and he has given you a large piece of land. You want to build a castle on that land and have £1000 to spend on it. What is the purpose of a castle? Group discussion.

  8. Design your castle You have 20 minutes to decide which features you group will choose and why. Remember to allocate roles so that everyone has something to do (someone needs to do the maths, someone needs to log the information, you all need to help to explain why you have chosen the features you have).

  9. How good is your castle? Your castle is now under attack!!!! Group co-ordinator from each group should come to the front and collect the first event. Read through the card and take the actions it suggests. When you have completed the first card you should bring it back and collect the second. Continue until you have dealt with all 7 events – who has the best castle?

  11. Taboo We need four volunteers to come to the front: You will, as a group, try identify the job role of each guest by listening to their characteristics and skills. CLUE: They are historical figures. Flying Geese The visitors are: William the Conqueror - Team Leader Anne Frank (diarist) – Feedback Co-ordinator Martin Luther King – Civil Rights Activist – Group Co-ordinator Florence Nightingale, Nurse – Assessment Co-ordinator Use the following key terms to help you describe the skills and qualities of who you are: listener, information collator, delegating, leading, making decisions, motivator, communicator , presenter, problem solving, organiser, assessor, support. Distinction – Will be able to compare the skills and characteristics of different job roles. Merit– Link skills and characteristics to job roles. Pass – identify the skills and characteristics.
