  3. Create Themes • As you learned in Chapter 1, documents you create in Word are based on a template called the Normal.dotm template. • This template provides default layout and formatting instructions and specifies the themes and styles that Word applies to your documents.

Create Themes…continued • This default template includes a number of built-in or predesigned themes, some of which you have been using throughout the chapters of this textbook to apply color, change fonts, and add effects to content in documents. • The built-in themes that are available in Microsoft Word are also available in Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  5. Create Themes…continued • A theme is a combination of colors, fonts, and effects. • Within a theme, you can change one or all of these elements with the buttons in the Themes group in the Page Layout tab.

  6. Create Themes…continued • You can use the default theme, named Office, change to one of the other built-in themes, or create your own custom theme. • A theme that you create displays in the Themes drop-down gallery under the Custom section.

Create Custom Theme Colors To create custom theme colors: • Click the Page Layout tab. • Click the Theme Colors button in the Themes group. • Click the Create New Theme Colors option. • Select the new background, accent, or hyperlink colors. • Type a name for the custom color theme. • Click the Save button.   9. Create Custom Theme Colors…continued Change a theme color by clicking the color button and then clicking the desired color at the drop-down palette. Click the Reset button to reset color back to the default.

  10. Create Custom Theme Colors…continued • After you have made all desired changes to the theme colors, click in the Name text box, type a name for the custom theme colors, and then click the Save button. Name text box

Create Custom Theme Colors…continued • When you click a color button in the Create New Theme Colors dialog box, color sets display in columns in a color palette. • If you want more control over colors (e.g., you want to use a color at a percentage other than those listed in a column), click the More Colors option that displays at the bottom of the color palette.

  25. Delete Custom Themes • You can delete custom theme colors from the Theme Colors button drop-down gallery, custom theme fonts from the Theme Fonts drop-down gallery, and custom themes from the Save Current Theme dialog box.
