  1. Discerning God’s Call Learning from Moses – Exodus 3.1-14

  2. Discerning God’s Call • ‘I am who I am’ – free to be who and how he chooses • Burning bush and holy ground • Through the sacrament of the ‘everyday’ • Through injustice and need: ‘your deep gladness & world’s hunger’ (Buechner) • The whole world is ‘a theatre of the glory of God’ (Calvin) 1.GOD IS - stopping and staying with his presence How has God been catching your attention?

  3. Stopping and staying… Need eyes to see: ‘The earth is ablaze with the fire of God, but only those who see it take their shoes off. The rest sit around & pick blackberries’(Elizabeth Barratt Browning) The earth is ablaze with the fire of God, and those who see it stop walking, running, pedalling, driving and… …The Bright Field…

  4. Discerning God’s Call 2. GOD WAS – connections with earlier experiences… • God calls us… • to use our previous experience • through a passion that arises from good or bad experiences • in continuity with who & how he has been in the past ‘God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’

  5. Discerning God’s Call 3. GOD WILL BE - ahead of us for the challenges ‘I will be who I will be’ • Greater, bigger & more stretching than we think • All that is really needed for the future (including grace…and despite our panic) • From guiding a flock to leading a people

  6. Ex 3 - Some questions to ask ourselves… 1. How is God catching your attention? 2. What does he say to you as you go near? 3. Is there a particular struggle or area of self-doubt which you might mention to him? 4. As you allow yourself to ask him ‘What is your name?’, ‘What are you like?’ what does God particularly want you to know about himself today? 5. In what way(s) is God showing himself to be with you at the moment? 6. Is God calling you afresh or anew to someone/something ?
