You may strip Germany of her colonies, reduce her armaments to a mere police force and her navy to that of a fifth-rate power; all the same, in the end, if she feels that she has been unjustly treated in the peace of 1919, she will find means of exacting retribution from her conquerors.” • --David Lloyd George
“I predict there would be another world war within a generation if no pains were taken to prevent it. Every women should weep for her child who when he grows to manhood will have to go forth and fight.” --Woodrow Wilson
SENATE wanted to Protect AMERICAN NEUTRALITY and keep us out of European wars • NO DESIRE to get into another ALLIANCE SYSTEM/Collective Security (ARTICLE 10 of the L.O.N.) • T.O.V. punished GERMANY too Harshly(FEAR OF REVENGE) • WW doesn’t compromise with GOP SENATE (LODGE) • WW had a Stroke

Wilson should have worked more closely with the Senate during peace negotiations b/c • A-all treaties must be approved by a 2/3 vote in the Senate • B-Wilson needed Senate support to run for a third term in 1920 • C-the Senate was controlled by his own political party • D-the Senate was responsible for the war debts of the allies
Many Germans felt that the Treaty of Versailles was unfair because • A-Germany was not involved in the crisis that led to war • B-the bases for peace in the 14 Points were ignored in the Treaty of Versailles • C-The U.S. claimed many of Germany’s former colonies • D-they resented the loss of German land to England
