  2. Why is kitchen safety important? • Kitchen safety for children is very important. For you it may just be a place to cook but for children it is a extremely dangerous place where multiple injuries ranging from minor to severe can happen.

  3. Dangerous places and objects in the kitchen… Hot pans on the stove. Trash bins full of hazardous items. Poisonous cleaners under the sink or in cabinets. Cutlery. Forks and knives can be extremely harmful to 0-2 yr olds.

  4. How to prevent injuries in the kitchen Lock your cabinets. Lock your fridge No magnets. They’re a choking hazard! Trash latch.

  5. Injury statistics in Canada… • In the early 2000’s there was data taken in Canada. Per 100,000 infants-9 yr olds approximately, • There was 340 deaths and over 900 hospitalizations caused by burns • Over 300 injuries caused by poisonings • Both burns and poisonings have a high chance of happening in a kitchen.   6. Tips Latches and locks on cabinets, fridges, etc, etc are best.

  7. The kitchen can be a very dangerous place for children. Be smart and take precautions.
