The Excretory System Function: To remove wastes from the body
Digestive Organs • Large Intestine: It reabsorbs water from indigestable food and then expels it from the body as feces • Liver: Filters toxins like ammonia
Respiratory Organs • The lungs remove carbon dioxide from the body when you exhale • Oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged between the alveoli and the capillaries that surround them.
Skin • Small amounts of antibodies, urea, ammonia, lactic acid, and vitamin C are removed through sweating • Salt (sodium chloride NaCl) is lost when you sweat • Sweat is 99% water and comes from blood plasma filtration
Urinary System • The kidneys filter the blood and remove nitrogen-containing metabolic wastes, toxins and drugs and expel them in urine. • They also maintain the proper balance between water and salts, and between acids and bases.
