  10. Calculator Steps (cont.) • The following is your answer. • After substitution, y = -225x + 4135 • y is the loan balance, b. And x is the number of payments, p. So the answer should be • b = -225p + 4135

  11. y x y x -1 0 3 3 1 19 -1 0 3 y x -1 0 3 y x 1 3 19 Example 2 • Which mapping best represents the function y = 2x2 + 1 when the replacement set for x is {-1, 0, 3}? 1 5 37 1 3 19 -1 0 3

  12. Calculator Steps • First press Y= on the calculator.

  13. Calculator Steps (cont.) • Under Y1= , type in the equation.

  14. Calculator Steps (cont.) • Type 2ND TABLE so that the table of values for the function appears.

  15. Calculator Steps (cont.) • Look for the values that the question is asking for. The question is asking for -1, 0, and 3. What y values do these x values relate to? • -1 ---

  16. Calculator Steps (cont.) • 0 ---

  17. Calculator Steps (cont.) • 3 ---

  18. y x -1 0 3 Calculator Steps (cont.) • Now check to see that -1, 0, and 3 point to the correct y values in the mapping. 1 3 19
