  3. The Scottish Kilt • belted plaid – 5 metres long, to cover both the upper and the lower body • outlawed in the 18th century • It is worn for formal celebrations.

  4. The Bagpipes • a bag with a chanter (on which the melody is played) and one or more drones (pipes which play a continuous note) • Not uniquely Scottish • Music – march (military events) - piobaireachd (classical music)
