  2. INTRODUCTION TOPIC: RAY PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The students have read the book and are familiar with the Literary technique of Characterization and Theme. DO NOW (3 mins): Quickly identify the strengths and weaknesses in Ray’s character and attitudes. STARTER (3 mins): What are your recommendations? What are the things you feel he could have done otherwise both in his strengths and his weaknesses?

  3. OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES • To draw the students attention to the protagonist, Ray. • To draw the students attention to the mishaps in his life. • To draw the students attention to the mishaps in the lives of many teenagers living in London due to school exclusion. • To draw the students attention to themes that arise from the life led by Ray and his friends, Tyrone and Prem. • To help students gain an analytical insight into judging characters based on their trends.

  4. MAIN LESSON • A wider discussion of the main character Ray. • A wider discussions of all the things that went wrong in Ray’s life. • A discussion of the lives of teenagers both in London and here in Nigeria. What are the challenges that are being faced? What happens when they are excluded from school? • Mention three (3) themes that you can identify in the life of Ray and his friends and how they relate to teenagers in London and in Nigeria. Give examples. • Pick on any other character in the book and disclose a theme they symbolize based on their trends in the novel.

  5. WORK Marga Man was a good influence in the lives of the boys (Ray, Tyrone and Prem). Discuss for ,or against.

  6. PLENARY (5 mins) Identify one feud Ray had with his father, and recommend how Ray or his father should have handled it with proposed character traits.
