  2. hic vir est Aristo. Aristo est amicus Barbilli. in villa splendida habitat, sed miserrimus est. This man is Aristo. Aristo is a friend of Barbillus. He lives in a splendid house, but he is very miserable.

  3. haec femina est Galatea. Galatea est uxor Aristonis. Galatea maritum saepe vituperat, numquam laudat. This woman is Galatea. Galatea is Aristo’s wife. Galtea always curses her husband and never praises him.

  4. haec puella est Helena. Helena est filia Aristonis et Galatea. multi iuvenes hanc puellam amant, quod pulcherrima est. This girl is Helena. Helena is Aristo and Galatea’s daughter. Many young men love this girl because she is very beautiful

  5. poma splendida per vias Alexandriae procedit. omnes Alexandrini hanc pompam spectare volunt. A splendid procession is proceeding through the streets of alexandria. All the Alexandrians want to watch this procession.

  6. hi viri sunt sacerdotes deae Isidis. Aristo hos viros intente spectat. sacerdotes statuam deae per vias portant. These men are the priests of the goddess Isis. Aristo is looking intently at these men. The priests are carrying the statue of the goddess through the streets.

  7. hae puellae pro pompa currunt. Helena has puellas intente spectat. puellae coronas rosarum gerunt. These girls are running in front of the procession. Helena is looking intently at these girls. The girls are wearing garlands of roses.

  8. pompa ad templum Serapidis advenit. prope hoc templum stant duo iuvenes. hi iuvenes tamen pompam non spectant. The procession arrives at the temple of serapis. In front of this temple are standing two young men. These young men, however, are not watching the procession.
