(GMS) has been true to its mission statement: “To Become the World’s Leading Technology Independent Supplier of Computing Engines, while Providing the Best Price/Performance, Quality and Customer Support, Demanded by Our Current and Our Future Customers.”

SWOT ANALYSIS General Micro Systems About GMS • GMS was established in 1979 and is in its 35th year in the embedded computing market and is the oldest supplier of embedded computers in the world.  • GMS is an “S” corporation that is privately held company with two locations in California and one location in Florida and has been seamlessly increasing business at a steady growth rate • GMS systems are targeted for applications where traditional VPX/VME/cPCI ATR packaging (card cage, power supply, fan trays, etc.) can not be considered due to size, weight, cost or other limiting factors. GMS systems pack the most performance with the lowest power consumption in the smallest package possible. All of our systems use only embedded devices to provide long life cycles, and to withstand harsh environmental conditions for Mil/Aero applications - meeting MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-1275D, MIL-STD-901D, MIL-STD-461E, DO-160D and IP67. • GMS has divided its systems into three series for easy identification: GREEN, BLUE and ORANGE. Each series is targeted for a specific power and performance envelope. • GREEN SERIES SYSTEMS are designed to be the smallest, lowest-power, and lightest weight.  • BLUE SERIES SYSTEMS are designed to meet more demanding applications required from a system designed for maximum power dissipation of 75 watts or less.  • ORANGE SERIES SYSTEMS are designed with significant amount of power/heat, weight, and complexity with significantly reduce costs of installation, daily operation and technology upgrades.

  4. SWOT ANALYSIS Strengths S Strength Sales is educated and knowledgeable in product lines as well as services. Strength Product customization/ flexibility to produce on demand customized products. Strength Professional engineers with high level of knowledge and expertise Why is this a Strength? This aids in GMS being able to provide customers with the solutions they need to stay ahead of their competition Why is this a Strength? This allows GMS to stay focused on its core technology, which is to develop computing engines. Why is this a Strength? This is what distinguishes GMS from the competition.

Why is this a Weaknesses? Excess inventory causes cash flow issues. Why is this a Weaknesses? Causes customer to RMA product causing cost increase. Why is this a Weaknesses? Poor Communication leads to inadequate workplaces.

This allows GMS to design more product. Why is this an Opportunity? GMS can take the opportunity to fill in the gap for customer needs. Why is this an Opportunity? New product lines contribute to the growth and expansion of GMS facilities, employment and product.

Why is this a Threat? With Expansion it requires GMS to hire more engineers who possibly might not be as knowledgeable in this field. Why is this a Threat? With the always changing technology this can cause current product line to become obsolete. Why is this a Threat? GMS competes in terms of price, quality, technology, reputation, distribution and range of products.

SWOT ANALYSIS Positive factors O S • Strengths • Product flexablity/ customization allows its customers to customize their product with a competitive advantage thus creating expansion for the company. • Opportunities • Building expansion is supported by the growth of product line due to GMS products being flexable and customizable. • Strengths • With GMS sales department being educated and knowledgeable in the products GMS sales this benefits GMS by being aware of customer needs to increase product line. • Opportunities • New product line is establised on the facts provided by the sales department and their knowledge of cusomer needs. • Strengths • GMS’ professional engineering department has disguested themself from the rest of the compitition by providing solutions and innovation aiding in the growth of our cutomer demand of products. • Opportunities • Customer demand is aided by the professional ism of our engineers who offer innovation and solutions.

SWOT ANALYSIS Negative factors W T • Weaknesses • Excess stock not only causes cash flow issues but it also makes it harder for GMS to advance technololigically due to obsolute parts. • Threats • The lack of technological advancement is aided in the excess amount of stock on hand. This is because GMS is forced to use inventory first and not being able to utilize new technology. • Weaknesses • Poor communication throughout GMS only aids in our competitors having the upperhand and providing qulity and ontime products. • Threats • Intense competition with compitors having similar lines is big a threat GMS because our poor communication will only aid in our customer leaving to go with our competitors. • Weaknesses • Poor quality management will continue if not addressed and the new employees will pick up same habits. • Threats • Poor quality managament must be addressed so when new professional engineers are hired it will not continue to disable GMS’ growth.

SWOT ANALYSIS Summary SWOT summary • GMS engineers ultimately have more expertise on board level design than any other company in the industry. • GMS is a thriving company with innovative ideas and designs to aid in its growth. • GMS is able to offer aggressive pricing, even in comparison to newly developing offshore markets to help eliminate excess stock. • GMS will likely already be ahead of the curve because they’ve always produce innovative computing engines and applications . • GMS is registered and certified to internationally recognized ISO 9001 to enforce strict quality procedures and regulations. • GMS customers, suppliers and employees strive to work together as a team, and the combined effort ultimately benefits everyone.
