Driving Schools Must… • Be Certified and Inspected by the MVA • Follow COMAR Regulations as Law • Have MVA Certified Instructors Who Have Passed Background Checks • Have MVA Certified Vehicles • Inform Parents of Student and Driving Coach Responsibilities • Complete Drivers Education Within 18 Weeks

  4. Step 1 • Model Good Driving Habits with your Student • Introduce Them to the Car and Talk with them About Driving • Start Examining the MVA Website for All the Useful Resources • Start Researching Possible Driving Schools • Enroll in Driving School/Obtain Learner’s Permit

Learner’s Permit • Can Obtain at Age 15 ¾ • Must Drive 60 Hours With Parent/Driving Coach and Log in Book • Need Proper Paperwork • Walk In Appointments • Computer Based Knowledge Test • Can Only Drive With Someone 21 or Older/License 3 years • No Tickets Or Start Over • Good for 2 Years Before Expiration • Vision Screening

Step 2 • Complete Drivers Education Course With 80% Exam Grade and 6 Hours of Drive Times • Hold Learners Permit for at Least 9 Months In Good Standing if 18 or under • 19 – 25 Years Old Must Hold Learners Permit for 3  Months • 26 and Over Must Hold Learners Permit for 45 Days • Pass a Skills Test at MVA Location (Full Service) • Turn in 60 Hour Log Book • Pay for Provisional License

  9. Skills Test • Must Schedule an Appointment with MVA • 30 Minutes Early Arrival • Car in Good Working Order • Insurance and Registration Info • Closed Course • Two Point Turn and Stop Sign • Road Test

  10. Provisional License • No Driving Between 12 midnight and 5 am Unless for School or Work • Can be Revoked by Parental Letter if Under 18 • Stricter Penalties for Citations • No Driving with Friends first 5 Months

  11. Step 3 • Keep Provisional License in Good Standing • Receive Full License at Appropriate Time • Remain a Good Role Model and Safe Driver for Others
