  1. Drivers Education Mr. Ressler

  2. Do Now • What are the restrictions when you have your special learner’s permit? • TRY NOT TO USE YOUR NOTES!!

  3. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN???

  4. Kyleigh’s Law • MVC LAW that requires any driver under the age of 21, who holds a probationary driver license to buy a pair of decals that are to be displayed on the top left corner of front/rear license plates. • MANDATORY AS OF MAY 1, 2010

  5. Updated Restrictions Under Kyleigh’s Law • Probationary Driver is only allowed one (1) additional passenger. (not including parents) • Cannot drive between 11PM-5AM • No wireless devices…EVEN HANDS FREE! • Must ensure SEATBELTS ARE USED! • Red stickers must be worn on the front/rear license plate, thus identifying driver as a probationary driver.

  6. WHY??????? • Studies show that a young driver's risk of being involved in a car crash is highest within his/her first 12-24 months of driving. An average of 6,000 teens die in car crashes nationally each year. • An additional 300,000 teens sustain injuries in crashes; • Many of those injuries are serious and often life-altering. • In fact, car crashes are the leading cause of brain injury in teens. • Delaying full driving privileges can reduce deaths and injuries by approximately 40%.

  7. Well still…. I don’t want to purchase these decals • Okay, putting yourself at risk for a $100 fine. • Once you validate your basic drivers license, this law no longer affects you…

  8. How do you feel about the current situation regarding teens and driving privileges? Do you think 16 is too young to drive?
