  2. General Information • Orangutans are mammals.They can live up to 40 years.Orangutans are solitary animals so they don’t hurt each other.Most orangutans are four to five feet long.Adult males weigh between 100 and 200 pounds and adult females weigh between 65 and 100 pounds.

  3. Behavioral adaptations • A behavioral adaptation is what an animal does to survive like orangutans use sticks to get food or to defend theirselfs.And orangutan males use sticks and twigs to make nest every night!It takes them up to 30 minutes to make these nest.

  4. Structural Adaptations • Orangutans have lots of structural adaptations like orangutans use their fur to blend into its habitat and the eyes of an orangutan helps it block the rays of the sun.Also an orangutan uses its powerful teeth to open fruit.

  5. Parts of a Rainforest • The tallest part of a rainforest is the emergent layer only birds live there.The next layer is the canopy.Most mammals don’t live in the canopy only birds and insects.

  6. More Parts of a Rainforest • Then comes the understory.More mammals live there.Orangutans,snakes,monkeys, toucans,and insects are examples of animals that live in the understory.

  7. The Forest Floor • The forest floor is the bottom of rainforest.Lots of animals and insects live on the forest floor like leopards,tigers,and gorrilas.
