  8. Why Is Memory Important? Short-Term Memory Information received from the five senses is stored in short-term memory. This is retained for a short period of time before the information is either storedinlong-term memory or forgotten. Example: Your friend tells you her new cell phone number. You repeat it in your head until you write it down. Lesson 5.1

  9. Why Is Memory Important? Long-Term Memory Long-Term Memory is the storage house in the brain; important information is stored for a long period of time. Example: Remembering the words to The National Anthem Lesson 5.1

  10. Why Is Memory Important? Working Memory We use Working Memory when we hold or “juggle” information in our mind and mentally manipulate this information. Example: Mental Math 151 ÷ 7=? Let’s see, 7 goes into 15 two times; carry the 1 and 7 goes into 11 one time with a remainder of 4. Lesson 5.1

  11. Why Is Memory Important? How is Working Memory Different from Short-Term Memory? Short-term memoryrefers only to the temporary storage of information in memory. Working memory refers to the processes that are used to temporarily store, organize and mentally juggle information. Lesson 5.1
