  14. 6 Essential Elements These are essential (VERY IMPORTANT) areas of geography that we study

  15. The World in Spatial Terms The spatial perspective of geography uses maps to study the things of the world: People Places Cultures Etc.

  16. People living with AIDS

  17. Map of McDonald’s, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, KFC, Jack in the Box, Hardee’s, Carl’s Jr, and In-N-Out (source: foodmapper.wordpress.com

  18. Places and Regions Physical and human characteristics that make a place or region unique What are the physical and human characteristics that define Riverton?

  19. Physical systems Physical geography has less to do with people, more to do with the Earth itself Volcanoes Earthquakes The water cycle How do these things affect geography?

  20. Human Systems Here is where the people come in! Where are people? What do they do? How do they live? What is their religion? How is their government set up? What makes us different from another culture?

  21. Environment and Society Now we put the last two together: Physical systems + human systems = How WE affect the EARTH and how the EARTH affects US! Sometimes we refer to this as HUMAN-ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION

  22. The Uses of Geography To torture each and every one of you for an entire school year? To look really smart to the people around you who don’t know North, South, East, and West? To be aware of who you are and what is out there? All of the above?
