  2. Govardhan • Who’s Govardhan? • Where is Govardhan?

  3. Indra was worshipped • Shri Krishna, lived in the village named Gokul.. • Near Gokul was the huge Govardhana mountain. • Every year, residents of Gokul worshipped Lord Indra to get good rainfall.

  4. Indra ‘s Pride • Due to this, Indra developed pride and thought that everything in this world runs smoothly only because of him. • Krishna sensed Indra's pride and wanted to teach Indraa lesson. • Krishna said to the cowherds, "We get rain because of Govardhan Hill. So, from today, let us worship Govardhan instead of Indra.”. • Indra became furious on knowing this. He started heavy rains in the village.

Heavy Rain & Thunder • Indra sent heavy rains on Gokul • He also pounded with thunderbolts • The villagers were scared and they immediately approached Shri Krishna • Krishna said, “The Govardhan which we have worshipped, will save us.” • Krishna lifted Govardhan hill and held on His left little finger • All the residents of Gokul went under it

  6. Krishna protects residents of Gokul • It rained for 7 days and 7 nights • But no one became hungry or thirsty • Everyone got shelter from the heavy rain under Govardhan.

  7. Indra realizes his mistake • Indrarealised his mistake of being proud • He begged Lord Krishna for forgiveness • He bathed Krishna with holy water

  8. Moral of the story One need not worship demi gods for rain and comforts. By performing this leela, Krishna subdued Indra’s pride and also proved that He will protect us.
