  1. ITER Controls - Status Update Anders Wallander ITER Organization – Central Team – Control System Division

  2. Project status and schedule Status update of CODAC

  3. July 2016

  4. ITER Control System Architecture The integrated control system is organized hierarchically with 18 subsystems and 171 plant system I&C (supplied IN-KIND by 101 procurement arrangements) • BUIL - Buildings • CRST - Cryostat and Thermal Shield • CRYO - Cryogenics • CWS - Cooling Water System • D1 - Diagnostics Measurement • D2 - Diagnostics Support • EC – Electron Cyclotron Heating • FUEL - Fueling and Wall Conditioning • IC – Ion Cyclotron Heating • MAG – Magnets and Power Supplies • NB – Neutral Beam Heating NB • PFCS - Plasma Facing Components • RAD - Radiation monitoring and Radwaste • RH - Remote Handling • TRIT - Tritium • UTIL – Utilities, Electrical, Liquid, Gas • VAC - Vacuum • VV - Vacuum Vessel Instrumentation Indicators if interface to Conventional, Interlock, Safety Blue required for first plasma

  5. Geography - Network Infrastructure (final configuration) • Bill of Material passive part • 173 cubicles • 182 passive network panels • 300 km multi-core single mode • 170 km multi-pair copper cables • Connecting thousands of plant system I&C client cubicles via network panels located in 28 buildings • Fully integrated in Construction • Electrical/Cabling Contract • Installation starts in 2017 Redundant dual star configuration Means that Control Building (Personal Access Building) is required for inter building communication

  6. Schedule Early Buildings EU submission August 2016 Too late

  7. Mitigation for late availability of Control Building Principles The central infrastructure, inter building connectivity and central services must be available well before the completion of Control Building Human Machine Interfaces must be provided as part of plant system I&C integration Integration of plant system I&C must start as early as possible for as many plant system I&C as possible (flatten resource profile) Migration of all plant systems I&C to Control Building, and integration of late ones, must be achieved in 18 months Implementation Create temporary local autonomous “islands” in strategic buildings providing central services and Human Machine Interfaces Connect islands with temporary cables to provide inter building connectivity Maximize emulation of final system to simplify migration to Control Building

  8. Temporary control rooms In summary there are 10 locations of central services, 11 temporary control rooms and 26 3-screen CODAC Terminals.

  9. I&C integration schedule 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2021-2023 Early Tokamak Systems 2018-2020 Buildings, utilities, electrical, cooling water, cryogenics, coil power supplies 2024-2025 Migration to Control Building and Integrated Commissioning Field work on ITER integrated control system will start very soon
