  2. Energy Source • Our source is solar energy. You get solar from the sun. • Solar energy is renewable energy.

  3. History • It is not widely known who discovered solar energy because many people discovered different things to do with it at different times. • A Swiss scientist, Horace de Saussure was the first person to create a solar collector, which he used to cook food. • It was discovered around 7th century BC.

  4. Where do we get it? • Solar energy can be found everywhere that sunlight shines. It is most commonly found places around the equator where the sun is up the longest. • Solar energy can be recovered by using solar panels. • Anyone can use it if they have enough money to get solar panels and they use it to power buildings and homes. • Video- http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/player/environment/energy-environment/solar-power.html

  5. How is it stored and released? • Solar energy can be stored by using battery banks or grid inter-tie. • Solar energy is also stored by using PV cell systems and is then transferred to electricity for power plants. • It is released by electricity so it can power homes and buildings.

  6. How is it used today? • Solar energy is used for powering homes and other buildings by the use of solar panels. • Some calculators and cars also run off of some solar energy. • We are using a lot more solar energy now in 2011 then we did in the past.

  7. Advantages and Disadvantages • One advantage of solar energy is that is gives off less pollution then other energy sources. • One disadvantage is that it costs a lot of money to install for your home or a business building.

  8. Future? • The future of solar energy is that most buildings will have solar panels and will use solar energy to power the building. • In the future cars and other types of transportation may also be powered by only solar energy.
