K-Kids • Student-led service organization for elementary school students • Motto: “We Build” • Objectives: • To provide opportunities for working together in service to school and community • To develop leadership potential • To foster the development of strong moral character • To encourage loyalty to school, community, and nation

  4. Typical service projects include: Get-well cards/books for a local hospital Planting flowers at school Lullaby CDs School Memory Book (like a year book, made by the club)

  5. Bring Up Grades (BUG) • Program designed to recognize students who raise their grades to an acceptable range • Recognition may include: • School’s BUG Honor Roll, themed food parties, certificates, etc. • Focuses on elementary school children ages 6-12 • Sponsored by Kiwanis-family clubs • (Kiwanis, Circle K, Key Club)

  6. Terrific Kids • TERRIFIC = Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive, and Capable • Student recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance • Students work to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance, or schoolwork

  7. Recognition may include: Being pinned as a Terrific Kid!, food themed parties, certificates, etc. Focuses on elementary school children age 6-12 Sponsored by Kiwanis-family clubs (Kiwanis, Circle K, Key Club)

  8. Builder’s Club • Largest service organization for Middle School and Junior High School students • Student-led community service organization that operates under school regulations • Motto: “Building Leaders” • Chartered with a Kiwanis Club • Can be co-sponsored by Key Club/Circle K • Vision: To develop competent, capable, caring leaders through service

  9. Mission: To provide members with opportunities to perform service, build character, and develop leadership Typical service projects include: Friendship bracelet kits Clean/maintaining school campus Hold a Teacher Appreciation Day Participate in Open House Organize a School Fair

Key Leader • Kiwanis International’s weekend experiential leadership program for today’s young leaders • Focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience • Mission: to provide a life-changing experience that inspires young people to achieve their personal best through service leadership

  11. Key Leader builds personal integrity, personal growth, respect, building community, and the pursuit of excellence Upcoming events in the CNH district! October 18-20, 2013: Camp Cedar Glen - Julian, CA November 15-17, 2013: Camp Jones Gulch - La Honda, CA

Circle K International • Premiere student-led college and university community service, leadership development, and friendship organization in the world • Clubs are sponsored by a Kiwanis club on a college/university campus • Self governing organization: elects own officers, conducts own meetings, determines own service activities

AktionClub • Only service club for adults with disabilities • Motto: Where development has no disability • Mission: To provide adults living with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative, leadership skills, and to serve their communities • Service Partner • Sleeping Children Around the World

Kiwanis International • Organization of service clubs headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana • Made up of approximately 8,600 clubs in 96 countries and over 586,000 adult members • Global organization of members dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time • Sponsors the smaller branchesof the Kiwanis Family

  16. Typical service projects include: Adopt/maintain a trail, park, road etc. Collect/serve food for homeless shelters/soup kitchens Service Partners: Boys and Girls Clubs of America UNICEF March of Dimes Children’s Miracle Network

Kiwanis One Day • The Kiwanis Service Initiative is observed worldwide in April - Kiwanis One Day • Kiwanis One Day is on April 6 in 2013 • Clubs are encouraged to join with all levels of the Kiwanis Family on this day of community service • It’s an opportunity to showcase the Kiwanis Family and the commitment to service in the community • Future Kiwanis One Day dates! • April 5, 2014 • April 11, 2015

Reading Around the World • Kiwanis members believe that every child should experience the joy of reading • Kiwanis’ Read Around the World program focuses on sharing the joy of books with young children • Kiwanis International partners with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) to give children the gift of reading, making reading fun and a beneficial part of everyday life

  19. Kiwanis International urges clubs to implement Read Around the World projects throughout the entire year; touching more kids’ lives Activities may include: book parties, read-ins, giving books, read-a-thons, and more
