  1. APEGS Competency Assessment Process We have written this blog to help Saskatchewan immigration aspirants as engineers or geoscientists to have an idea of the APEGS Competency assessment process. The better they know this, the easier it will be for them to apply for licensure or registration systematically. So, if you are one of these aspirants, then reading this blog is a must-do for you. However, we tell you about the whole assessment process, we want you to know about the assessor first.

  2. Assessor’s role: All validated competency submissions are reviewed by two assessors assigned by the regulator. The role of an assessor is to examine the examples and determine the competency level that has been demonstrated. As an applicant, you must have met the necessary average competency level for each category to be registered. APEGS competency assessment process: The following are the 7 steps of the APEGS online assessment process: 1. Assessors will get a notification using email when the application is ready for review. After that, they will log in to the APEGS competency assessment system. 2. The evaluator will examine your education and employment history. No input is needed from the Assessor in these sections, but they provide the assessor with the opportunity to review chronological summaries of your education and experience. The employment history section also gives Assessors an opportunity to look for a progression of responsibility in their experience. 3. After that, the assessor will review your competency self-assessment and determine for each competency/work experience competency whether the example given provides sufficient proof that the competency has been demonstrated at the needed level. While reviewing each example, Assessors will pay heed to the competency levels you and the validator claimed. Based on the breadth, depth, and quality of the example given, the assessor will grade your competency self-assessment by rating the examples provided on the six-point (0-5) Engineering or Geoscience rating scale. Assessors also have the option of commenting on each competency. These comments are confidential, and you and the validator can’t see them. 4. The system will calculate the average Competence Level attained for each category as per each Assessor.

  3. 1. In the ‘Supporting Documents’ section, the Assessor may review any supporting documents you uploaded. Including supporting documents is optional. 2. In the ‘Validator Overall Feedback’ section, Assessors will review the feedback of your Validators. 3. After that, the Assessor will be told to confirm their final recommendation on whether you have fulfilled the competencies at the expected level for professional registration or licensure. Interviewing to assess competency: When further clarification or details is needed, a regulator may invite you to have an interview. These interviews will give you an opportunity to show in person a summary of your experience, to expand further on your work, and/or to better explain your level of application of geoscience/engineering principles. The interview will help determine whether you have fulfilled all of the experience requirements and have demonstrated a progression of experience and responsibility to a professional level. Competencies in which you were rated below the necessary level may be the areas of attention for the interview.
