  1. Food Grade Lubricants Sales & Applications

  2. Why should I buy from Total? • Total, in conjunction with the FDA helped to create 21 CFR 178.3570 creating the “Nevastane” line of products in 1925. • This gives us excellent experience and recognition within the of food grade lubricants industry. • Our long term success selling to the “clean” industries establishes are products market proven.

  3. Why Should I buy from Total?Cont’d • Nevastane is found in the manuals of numerous “clean” industry OEM’s. Which makes Nevastane the product of choice for many industry applications. • The Nevastane product line features one of the most complete ranges of food grade products in the industry. • All Nevastane products are either NSF registered H1 or 3H • All Nevastane production facilities are certified ISO 9000-2000 and 14001 certified

  4. Who Do We Target? • Bakery • Beverage & Canning • Meat & Poultry • Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics • Pet Food & Others

  5. Getting the Walkthrough • When calling on accounts a plant walkthrough is a must • When conducting a walkthrough be sure to walk the process all the way through. Identify the major components and machinery. • Ask to see the oil room or lubricant storage. • Ask specific questions about the equipment before. People are inherently proud of what they do so they will normally tell you more than you need to know. • A solid proposal comes from understand the needs of the customer

  6. NSF Registration • NSF registers products, the do not approve or certify them. • Applicable registrations • H1 Incidental Food Contact Allowed • H2 No contact with Food • 3H Edible products that become a part of the finished good

  7. NSF Registration cont’d • What does this mean? • If your product is registered it means that your product complies with the FDA requirement 21 CFR 178.3570 • In other words your product is formulated using only ingredients found on the FDA white list and at the stated %’s.

  8. NSF Certified • ISO certification is on the horizon. It is call ISO 21469 • It involves a higher standard for certifying the production of food grade lubricants.

  9. HACCP • Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points • Developed by NASA and Pillsbury for the protection of food stuffs for the astronauts • Main concept manage and eliminate the potential for food contamination • How it applies to Food Grade Lubricants • Any way that lubricants can contaminate foods must be addressed • Food Grade Lubricants should be segregated from non-food grade lubricants

  10. The Baking Industry • Bakeries- are smaller volume. • If you include divider oil they can be substantial. • Important industry approvals • HACCP • AIB Gold Certification

  11. Bakery • At the start of a bakery line are the raw materials • Tank Room – Liquid Ingredients • Towers or Silo’s – Powder Ingredients • Ingredients are handled with pumps or blowers

  12. Baking cont’d • Raw Material Handling Equipment • Blowers • Vacuum Pumps • H1 - products Nevastane AW or SL 68-150 • Match viscosity grade from OEM recommendation generally high operating temperatures need heavier grades • Compressors • Always try to obtain name, model and OEM recommendations

  13. Baking cont’d • Dough or Batter Preparation/Mixing Room • The primary piece of equipment is the mixer. Lubrication requirement can differ based on load. • Cross reference OEM recommendations when possible. The Mixer gear box lubrication can be satisfied with the following products: • H1- Nevastane EP or SL 150 – 460 • Word of caution some mixers lubrication requirements can only be satisfied with a GL-5 automotive specified gear oil. Any 80W-90 conventional or synthetic 75W-90 meeting GL-5 requirements is suitable for use.

  16. Baking cont’d • Oven Chain lubrication cont’d • There is a wide variety of H2 oven chain lubricants • Ester • PAO • PAG • White oil • The ideal product for very high temperature chains is a carrier fluid and a lubricating solid such as graphite of boron nitrite. • This application can be dangerous. The carrier fluid can and will ignite if applied at to high of a temperature.

  17. Baking cont’d • Oven Chain lubrication cont’d • The cleaner the chain stays the better. • Ester based – no residue • If you see chains with carbon build you can solve that problem • Chain cleaning is tedious and done by hand

  18. Baking cont’d • Oven Chain lubrication cont’d • It is costly to clean the chain • Dirty chain creates more drag on the drive motor • Our Syn-Temp Chain lubricant series is ester technology some featuring soluble moly. • Very effective for chain up to about 500 degrees F. • The baking industry is proactively moving toward H1 oven chain lubricants • Our Nevastane SY is a good moderate to low temperature H1 lubricant • We are currently developing a high temperature H1 oven chain lubricant

  19. Baking cont’d • Dough Divider & Demoulding • Dough Divider • Nevastane Clear 15 is 3H • Divider oil is a commodity it sells for low margin. • Specific to mainly bread making as the product leaves the oven thin knifes drop down and slice the product. • Demoulding Oil • A release agent Nevastane Clear 15 • It is a commodity low margin item

  20. Baking cont’d • Proofing Tunnel • Proofing is the process that allows dough to rise such as bread • Cracker and cookies don’t need proofing • Proofer Chain Lubricant • Moisture problems • Condensation & Corrosion • Nevastane 6

  21. Baking cont’d • Packaging • Look for standard components • Bearings • Chains • Gears • Hydraulics
