  2. Why do we give awards / badges? • To say YES! and celebrate • To foster pride and self esteem • To show others (in & out of GB) what the young people have done • Badge designs & how to display reviewed by Trustee Board during 2010/2011 and launched at GB Council July 2011

Pin on badges • Young people receive a pin on badge and/or a certificate to celebrate every, n:gage adventure, n:counta track, n:spire challenge completed. • Groups choose as appropriate to their young people & local context – ask your young people for their opinions! • Colourful badges relevant to the subject covered, including ‘Your Choice’ if creating own n:vestigation etc. • When young people move into a new section, receive programme specific achievement badge to replace pin on badges.

  4. Pin on badges • n:vestigate/n:gage/n:counta achievement badge plus pin on badges displayed as the young people choose on a shoulder bag. Or during transitional period, on uniform or armband. • FAQ – what do we give out on awards celebration evening? • Individual groups to choose. Options include giving final pin on badge of year, giving certificates (generic or programme specific), giving n:vestigate/n:gage achievement badge to those going into new group. • All available from GB Trading.

  5. Sticker Books & Journals • n:vestigate & n:gage sticker books - small sticker each week attended, large sticker when completed. • n:counta journal & n:spire journal - space for young person to record & reflect on achievement & mentor to sign rather than assess. n:spire journal replaces the Brigader Progress Book.

  6. Record Sheets Free to download from Sign in Go leader zone of GB website -www.girlsb.org To be completed and badges ordered direct from GB Trading or follow arrangements in district. For Brigader Brooch, only need to send in Brigader Progress Book or n:spire record sheet if young person doing Queen’s Award. Otherwise no need to be ‘checked’, simply phone GB Trading to order and make sure name goes in The View.

  7. Transitional period • Groups may continue with the old badge system if they prefer and transfer to the new system in September 2012. • It is hoped that the new awards system will be fully in use by September 2013. • All pin badges & service awards will go on shoulder bags instead of armbands. Young Leader Badges, Distinguished Service/ Endurance Awards to be worn on sweatshirt or polo shirt. • When girls move into a new section, their highest star or circle may be put on the bag in place of the achievement badges. • Current Brigaders preferring to complete their armband using the old system may do so - receiving 3 triangles & the Brigader Brooch by completing 20 n:spire challenges.
