  2. METABOLOMICS Metabolomics is the scientific study of chemical processes involving metabolites, the small molecule substrates, intermediates and products of cell metabolism. What are metabolomics used for? Metabolomics is an objective lens to view the complex nature of how physiology is linked to external events and conditions, as well as measure its response to perturbations such as those associated with disease. What are the advantages of metabolomics? Studying the metabolome is advantageous for several reasons including, The metabolome provides the closest link to the phenotype of an organism. The analytical approaches are transferable across different biological systems. Metabolism is highly conserved across biology.
