Barometer Lab

Barometer Lab. Problem Write down a question that is clear and testable. i use my barometer because the problem is that i really dont know exactly when the temperature and pressure would go up or down , increass or decreases you dont know how or why.

  1. Barometer Lab

  2. ProblemWrite down a question that is clear and testable • i use my barometer becausetheproblemisthat i reallydontknowexactlywhenthetemperature and pressurewouldgo up ordown, increassordecreasesyoudontknowhoworwhy

  3. BackgroundRead the ‘Air Pressure’ handout on Moodle and answer questions 1 to 15 in the space below • 1.altitude isgreater at point A • 2.air pressureisgrat at point A • 3.density of the air isgrater at point B • 4.a cubic meter of air has lessmass at point A,B • 5.the percentage of oxygen in the air at point A islessthan B percent • 6.state 3 properties of air: weight, mass, and density

  4. . • 7.why doesnt air pressurecrushobjectssuch as yourdesk? Becauseits¨something¨ goes in alldirections, notjustdown, air preassure and particules. • 8. what two units of air pressure are used in weather reports? • Inches of mercury and milibars • 9. air pressure: force per unit area • 10. altitude: thedistanceabove sea level

  5. . • 11. aneroid barometer: any instument that measures changes in air pressure • 12. barometer: instrumen that measures changes in air pressure without using liquid • 13. density: the amount of mass in a unit volume of a substance • 14. mercury barometer: instrumen that measures changes in air pressure using liquid mercury • 15. pressure: the result of weight of a column of air pushing down down on an area

  6. Variables • The air preassure is the independent variable and the temperature air is the dependent variable. In other words, the altitude changes depending on the amount of time and the time we meassure of the air

  7. Hypothesis • If i colocate my barometer in a cold place of thehausewereitnotrecievesthesunthenitwouldmark a temperaturelowbecauseitdoesnotrecievehottnesenergyfromthesun.

  9. Data Analysis

  10. ., • 2. From the graph, what can you conclude about changes in air pressure? That in quito the presure it changes a little bet, it doennot have too much difference • 3. How many data points were you able to collect? Do you think this is enough data to make conclusions about air pressure and weather changes? I was able to collect 7 because most of them were repeated. Well yes i think is in off because as i said most datas repeat.

  11. . • . Why was it important to record obsrvations about the weather conditions? It was important because that way we could have different datas and then we could compare the difference in a graph. • 5. Was your data reliable? Explain why or why not. • I think our data was kaind of realiable because it did not change a lot but it were familiars numbers like it had a top were it never passed and a top of lees that it did not pass. • 6. Was your data accurate? Explain why or why not. • Our data wasent so accurate as wethoughtbecausewethoughtwewouldhavehugebarities of numebrs, a lot of changesbut no, itjustchsnge in mm mostly.

  12. . • 7. What change in atmospheric conditions must occur to cause the free end of the straw to rise? What change must occur for it to fall? • it would be compressed and condensed like in our project in a …jar. So for it to go up this would need more pressure a higher altitude and of course as natural… higher climatic that change. Finally if you want to that go down…it would be the oppositive. Less everything!!! air pressure, temperature and more • 8. According to your observations, what kind of weather is usually associated with high air pressure? With low air pressure? • It its is cold weather , low temper air well the pressure must increases, but if it is contrary case, hot weather, high temperature air .. Pressure would decrease.

  13. . • 9. If your balloon had a tiny hole in it, what would happen to the accuracy of your barometer? It won't work because it would not have the pressure and temperature adequate to work as a barometer. • 10. What effect, if any, would a great temperature change have on the accuracy of your barometer? Explain. • Its as simple as this... low temperature higher pressure . Or high temperature low pressure. So it will always change so yes it is accuracy of our barometer.

  14. Conclusion • a) Whether or not your hypothesis was supported by your results; our hypothesis comparing to the results well yes it supported because if we collocate our barometer in the freezer the climate there would be totally different and it would dramatically change.b) An interpretation of your results; interpretation our results we made a lot of effort and a lot of work our results weren't as we expected, but we have to see good side of things, we had learned a lot. c) Name at least two sources of error that might have affected your results. How could the lab be re-designed in order to reduce this error? two errors were that when we take the datas the firs two days it was a disaster because the jar moved, the straw fall down so there we lost time of taking an exact date.
