  2. A Article- a part of a document such as the constitution that deals with a single subject Abolitionist- A person who strongly favors doing away with slavery. John Adams- The first president of the united states

  3. B Burgesses- elected representatives to an assembly. Blockade runner- ship that sails into and out of a blockade area. Boycott- to refuse to buy items from a particular country.

  4. Cash crop- farm crop raised to be sold for money C Census- official count of a population Canal- an artificial waterway

  5. Draft- the selection of persons for required military service D Diversity- variety or difference Debtor- person or country that owes money

  6. E Emancipate- to free from slavery Effigy- rag figure representing an unpopular individual Export- to sell goods aboard

  7. F Frigate- warship Federalists- supports of the constitution Freedom- a person freed from slavery

  8. G Global warming- a steady increase in average world temperatures Genocide- the deliberate destruction of a racial political or cultural group Greenback- a piece of U.S. paper money first issued by the north during the civil war
