Explore the influence of different music genres on heart rates among high school students through an experimental procedure. Findings show rap and electronic music had the most significant impact on heart rates, contradicting the hypothesis favoring rock music. An insightful project examining the correlation between music genres and physiological responses.

Problem: Which genre of music increases your heart rate the most? By: Katelyn Shaulis Bellwood-Antis High School 9th Grade
Hypothesis: Rock music will increase your heart rate the most. “The music that affects you the most is calm music like instrumental or fast music like rock or techno.”http://healthmad.com/health/does-music-affect-your-heartbeat/#ixzz1FaZNzAxH
Experimental Procedure • Step one: Test all 6 student’s heart rates • Step two: Have Male “A“ and Female “A“ listen to one minute of the first genre. • Step three: Test heart rate immediately • Step Four: Repeat steps two and three with Male “B“ and Female “B“ and then with Male “C“ and Female “C“ • Step Five: Repeat step 4 until all genres have been tested • Step Six: Repeat step 5, but listen to no music. • Step Seven: When finished, compare data.
Control Group: • Not having students listen to music • Control Variables: • Age of students • Length of music played • No distracting room • Volume of music
Experimental Variable: • Having students listen to music. • Experimental Group: • 6 Genres of Music • Rock • Rap • Country • Classical • Electronic • Pop
In conclusion my data does not support my Hypothesis that Rock music will increase your heart rate the most • Rock music only increased 2 heart rates. • Rap and Electronic both increased 4 heart rates, causing these two genres to increase your heart rate the most.
If I was to do my project differently I would test each student’s heart rate before I tested each genre, not just at the beginning of the experiment.
