  1. Blog: HRLearningCenter.com KNOWING YOU RIGHTS – EMPLOYEES Employment discrimination can be seen in various forms across the corporate world based on gender, religion, race, nationality, disabilities and more. The discrimination can be verbal or implied through certain actions. Victims of these discriminations tend to wither under emotional pressure and most of such incidences go unreported, either due to societal pressure or unawareness of personal rights. Learning to Deal with Discrimination: Confront: The best and most effective way to make a person realize and stop him from taking the harassment further, is confronting. It is the direct and simple way of conveying the message that you are feeling discriminated. Sometimes the discrimination might be unintentional or unplanned. Stop: Be very explicit on the certain behavior or actions that has resulted in the discrimination. This is not only to make things clear, but also convey the fact that you aren’t the shy types who will accept whatever is handed to you. Evidences: While you are on the first two steps, make sure you are gathering and preserving any and all physical evidences of discrimination like pictures or posters or memos that indicates discrimination. In case the first two steps fail to work, you will need these. Report: Do not let such acts go unnoticed. Your first step will be to report to the management for appropriate actions. But a lot of times, the management fails to take actions against the accused and you will need to escalate the matter to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) The EEOC enforces the federal law that is in place prohibiting employment discrimination and you should be aware of your rights and the laws in place. There are various human resource training organizations that educate the employees and those seeking employment on their rights in any employment opportunities. They conduct HR webinars and training sessions for their members.
