  9. The 3 R’s of Membership • Retain • Communicate with members regularly (social media) • Engage members in chapter meetings • Encourage involvement in competitive events and national programs • Point system

  10. The 3 R’s of Membership • Recognize • Recognition applications are due to national FCCLA March 1st • Provide local recognition • Announcements • End-of-year awards banquet • Bulletin boards • Publicize student accomplishments in local and social media

Top 10 Characteristics of Effective Chapters • Manageable (start small) • Student-led • Program of work in place • Conducts orderly, intentional meetings • Implements an officer training • Co-curricular • Visible in the community • Use competitive events & national programs • Recognition for students • Effective fundraising campaigns

The Co-Curricular Chapter • What does it look like? • Dedicate some class time to introduce FCCLA • Recruit from FACS classes • Teach leadership (Dynamic Leadership) • Class officers/representatives • Use national program resources to teach content (Power of One, Financial Fitness, Student Body) • Use STAR Events as class projects (why reinvent the wheel?) • What’s going on in FCCLA? (segment/bulletin)

  18. Form a Plan • Who • What • When • Where • How • Resources • Timeline of activities • Program of work

  19. Act • Summarize and record plainly how the plan was executed • Omit judgment/evaluation (save this for the follow-up)

Program of Work • Definition: A group of projects tied together because they contribute to the same objectives of an organization • i.e.- FCCLA’s mission and purposes • Chapter officers develop w/ your guidance • Keep it realistic (start small) • Organize by month or goal • Distribute it to members, students, & others • Include chapter, district, state, and national meetings • Brand it with FCCLA & FACS logo
