  1. What is physical fitness………. What would your definition of a physically fit person be? What kind of characteristics would they have?

  2. What are the parts of physical fitness? Muscle Strength Muscle Endurance Flexibility Body Composition Heart/Lung Endurance

  3. Muscle Strength and Endurance • The ability of your muscles to exert a force is called strength. The most weight you can lift or the most force you can exert at one time are measures of your muscle strength. The ability of your muscles to exert a force over time without becoming overly tired is muscle endurance.

  4. Flexibility Your ability to move within the range of motion for each joint is your flexibility. People with good flexibility can bend, stretch and turn their bodies easily. People with poor flexibility feel stiff when they move. You may be more flexible in one part of your body than another. You can test the flexibility of the major muscles in your lower back and the back of your legs by doing the sit and reach test.

  5. Heart and Lung Endurance How effectively your heart and lungs work during exercise and how quickly they return to normal exercise is a measure of your heart and lung endurance. Your power to move your whole body over time is heart and lung endurance. You can move your body while staying pretty much in the same place, such as jumping rope. You can move your body while moving from place to place , such as walking or running.

  6. Body Composition The proportion of body fat in comparison with lean body tissue, such as muscle and bone is body composition. BMI is Body Mass Index. If your BMI falls at or above the limit for your gender and age, you may need to change your diet or exercise habits. Before you take action, talk it over with a parent , fitness instructor, or family physician.
